          Rachell Sumpter holds many vocations; illustrator, designer, professor, and more.

          Coming from a path focused on science and the human brain, Sumpter became a very well practiced, and very well known, illustrator. From working with Oprah to designing book covers, Sumpter has come a long way from her start in San Diego. 

          Focusing on her work creating illustrations in both 2D and 3D for magazines, book covers, and contracted work, there are a lot of necessary skills needed to do Sumpters work.

          A: I was born in Los Angeles and raised in the SF Bay area.

          First and most importantly you need to have an understanding for the make up of art. Understanding how to create a visually appealing piece that has unity and subordination, interesting line work, some scale of light and dark values/colors etc.

          Of course one could say all artists would need to understand these but someone in Sumpter’s position needs to have a really good understanding of their application because ultimately her art helps market a lot of the pub
